Argent Materials is proud to be a carbon neutral business since 2019. By recycling building materials, we divert waste from landfills and repurpose it for infrastructure. Our efforts have removed over 1.5 million pounds of CO₂ from the atmosphere.
This status is rigorously tested through independent third-party organizations ensuring our greenhouse gas statements comply with relevant standards and methodologies. Our verification is based on the key factors: (1) Our recycling practices prevent materials from being landfilled; (2) our central location eliminated millions of truck miles from local streets and freeways annually; and (3) our use of electric power, electric vehicles and renewable energy further reduces our overall carbon footprint, ensuring industry leading reductions to our carbon footprint.

RECYCLING
Argent Materials is a recycling facility fully aligned with California's sustainability goals. As an example, the state's Integrated Waste Management Act (AB 341) aims to reduce 75% of landfill waste by 2025 as part of a broader push towards a zero-waste future. With high construction demands in California, recycled aggregate plays a vital role in conserving natural resources, minimizing landfill use, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. As natural aggregates become scarcer and more costly to transport, recycled materials offer a cost-effective, environmentally sustainable solution that supports the state’s sustainability objectives.

OAKLAND
Argent Materials is strategically located in Oakland to be close to our customers' job sites, averaging less than 9 miles away. This proximity saves customers money and reduces emissions, unlike typical recycling yards and landfills, which are often over 30 miles away. Our central location reduces truck traffic on Bay Area freeways by nearly 15M miles annually, significantly lowering trucking costs and emissions.
Recycled concrete and asphalt are the MOST recycled substances on earth. In addition, Argent procures these recycled materials from within the Bay Area, recycles these products IN Oakland and sells these recycled products back to customers for reuse in the Bay Area. R99 Clean Diesel
In 2017, Argent Materials made the switch from petroleum diesel to 100% non-fossil fuel Neste MY R-99 Renewable Diesel in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and combat climate change. Renewable diesel is essential for the future of heavy equipment used in California. This supports the State’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building a more sustainable and cleaner environment.
Electric Equipment
Argent Materials has converted 10% of their fleet to electric equipment to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment. Switching to electric can reduce operational costs by lowering fuel expenses and maintenance requirements. These efforts demonstrate Argent Materials' commitment to aligning with California’s environmental goals while positioning the company as a leader in sustainable practices within the construction industry.
Water Re-Use System
Argent Materials prioritizes water conservation by reusing excess water throughout its operations. Water is essential for both dust suppression across the yard and maintaining product quality. To maximize efficiency, water is collected in a central tank, filtered, and recirculated, reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact.
CLEAN AIR
Most concrete recycling facilities are located in agricultural areas where dust and trackout are less of a concern. Argent has reinvented how concrete recyclers operate. To minimize airborne dust, all of our crushing operations take place indoors. We use sprinklers and a water recycling system to keep dust under control and maintain damp stockpiles. Additionally, we've implemented a clean interface system to ensure customer vehicles leave with clean tires, preventing dust from being tracked out of the yard. Our crews are specially trained to mitigate dust at every stage of the process.
